Don't Forget About a Survival Toilet in Your Survival Prepping

2021-February-11
Remember that preparedness starts by seeing a need and planning to fulfill that need. Have you ever thought about where you would "go" if you were hunkered down in a long-term emergency survival situation, and your toilet were to stop flushing? What if the water were to be turned off or your municipal sewage system was down due to an environmental disaster?

It's time to consider and make a plan for your emergency toileting needs. Here are two types of emergency-use survival toilets that I recommend. Campers and hikers use these toilets, but they are also great for medical convalescence and emergencies.

A portable toilet like this one has a durable tank designed for easy waste disposal. It looks and feels like a regular toilet, and it flushes like one too! Great for emergency shelters such as a basement in a hurricane.

Another handy model is this foldable commode. It folds easily for compact storage so you can carry it with you in an emergency. It's so much easier to use than trying to dig a hole for a temporary latrine. Just place a plastic bag on the seat and remove it when done. This portable toilet comes with six disposable plastic waste bags. You can also buy additional replacement toilet bags to help you dispose of biowaste in a sanitary and hygienic manner.

For privacy, you can make your own porta-potty stall with an instant privacy tent. It has a lightweight, pop-up design that also folds into a neat carrying case. Even though bodily waste is a topic we don't give much thought to, when the crap hits the proverbial fan, where to "go" will become top of mind!
