AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid used in vehicles with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce harmful gases being released into the atmosphere.AdBlue is a 32,5 % solution of high-purity, synthetically manufactured urea in de-mineralized water. It is a safe-to-use fluid.
AdBlue product is certified according to ISO 22241 (ISO 22241-1, ISO 22241-2, ISO 22241-3). This international standard protects your vehicle from contamination which could cause serious damage. Using a urea solution of incorrect or low quality that does not follow these standards risks costly repairs.
How does AdBlue work?
To meet Euro 6 standard, diesel-powered cars use SCR technology to inject this compound into the vehicle's exhaust system. Urea solution combined with exhaust gas produces nitrogen and oxygen, which is harmless to the environment by decomposing nitrogen oxides (the main pollutant components of diesel engines). This technology has been used in buses and heavy trucks for a long time, so its effectiveness has been proven.
Does your vehicle use AdBlue?
SCR technology with AdBlue may be still unfamiliar to some users. If your recently imported vehicle meets US or European standards, it has strong possibility of using AdBlue technolòy already. Many users do not know this until a warning light appeared on the panel notifying that AdBlue needs adding because the SCR system has no effect on the operation of the vehicle and there is no indicator of the remaining level of AdBlue.
If you don't know if your vehicle uses AdBlue or not, you can check it out in the vehicle manufacturer's manual and find the location of the AdBlue cap - if it is not mentioned, it is possible that your vehicle does not use SCR. Normally, the Adblue filler cap is either next to the fuel filler, in the boot or under the bonnet.
Should AdBlue be stored in the trunk?
You might think you should store the AdBlue in the trunk? However, the automotive and AdBlue manufacturers discourage you from doing so because possible spills may affect your vehicle. In addition, if the residual amount of AdBlue in the bottle when exposed to harmful substances in the air, the properties of AdBlue can change.
